Facing the Giants of the Underground 💀

In Core Keeper, the true test of survival comes when you face the ancient creatures lurking in the depths. These bosses guard vital progression items that awaken the Core and unlock access to new biomes, recipes, and gear.

Whether you’re fighting solo or taking them on with friends in a ChipHead-hosted world, preparation is everything. Here’s how to locate and conquer every major boss from the early to mid-game.

1. Glurch the Abominous Mass 🪀

Biome: The Dirt Biome (near spawn)
Type: Slime Boss

How to Find:
Follow the trails of green slime that spread through the caves. You’ll eventually reach a massive, circular arena surrounded by bouncing enemies.

Preparation Tips:

  • Bring Wooden Armor or better
  • Carry Bomb Peppers and Heart Berries for healing meals
  • Craft Slime Oil Lanterns to improve visibility

Strategy:
Glurch jumps around the arena, crushing anything under him.

  • Stay mobile and dodge his landing spots
  • Attack when he pauses after each jump
  • Clear small slimes early to keep space open

Rewards:

  • Slime Oil (used to attract NPCs)
  • Glurch Eye (used to activate one of the Core statues)
  • A guaranteed Slime Ring for increased movement speed
Pro Tip: Build walls or trenches before the fight to limit Glurch’s jumping range, it makes dodging much easier.

2. Ghorm the Devourer 🪲

Biome: The Dirt Biome (outer rim)
Type: Giant Worm Boss

How to Find:
Ghorm travels endlessly around the outer ring of the starting biome, leaving a trail of slime. You’ll know he’s close when the ground shakes violently.

Preparation Tips:

  • Bring Ranged Weapons (slingshot or musket)
  • Set traps along his path
  • Have bridges ready if his tunnel crosses water

Strategy:
Ghorm charges forward at high speed, don’t chase him directly.

  • Use Spike Traps and Explosives along his track
  • Lure him into choke points
  • Attack when he stops or turns after hitting obstacles

Rewards:

  • Ghorm’s Horn Ring (speed boost)
  • Larva Meat and Chitin for advanced crafting
  • Ghorm’s Crystal (Core activation item)
Bonus Tip: After defeating Ghorm, you can reuse his tunnel as a safe travel route for resource runs around the map.

3. The Hive Mother 🐜

Biome: Clay Caves
Type: Stationary, Acid-Spitting Boss

How to Find:
Use the Glurch statue at the Core, it reveals the Hive Mother’s location when fed with the correct item (Glurch Eye).

Preparation Tips:

  • Craft Iron Armor and a Ranged Weapon
  • Bring Acid Resistance Potions
  • Clear surrounding larvae before the fight

Strategy:
This boss sits still but floods the area with acid pools and summons larvae waves.

  • Stay mobile, don’t stand in acid
  • Focus on larvae first, then damage the boss between waves
  • Use walls or trenches to limit acid spread

Rewards:

  • Larva Ring, Larva Chest, and Hive Mother’s Heart
  • Unlocks recipes for advanced armour and materials
  • Drops Hive Mother’s Crystal for Core activation
Pro Tip: Bring a team, one player for crowd control, another for boss damage. The larvae can overwhelm you solo.

4. Azeos the Sky Titan ⚡

Biome: Azeos’ Wilderness (unlocked after powering the Core)
Type: Flying Electrical Boss

How to Find:
Craft the Azeos Scanner from the Ancient Hologram Pod after defeating the first three bosses. It marks his location on your map.

Preparation Tips:

  • Bring Scarlet Armor and a Musket or Fire Staff
  • Stock up on Electrical Resistance Potions
  • Build a wide, open arena before summoning

Strategy:
Azeos summons electric crystals and shock beams while teleporting around.

  • Destroy the spawned crystals immediately
  • Keep moving to avoid beam strikes
  • Attack during teleport pauses

Rewards:

  • Soul of Azeos (used for crafting wings and gliders)
  • Azeos Feathers for movement boosts
  • High-tier electrical crafting materials
Bonus Tip: Always clear obstacles before summoning, getting trapped in terrain mid-fight is a quick way to fry yourself.

5. Ivy the Poisonous Mass ☠️

Biome: The Wilderness (secondary optional boss)
Type: Slime Mutation

How to Find:
Found randomly in the outer regions of Azeos’ Wilderness. Look for green mist and clusters of toxic slimes.

Preparation Tips:

  • Bring Poison Resistance Potions
  • Equip Scarlet Armor or better
  • Carry high-damage melee weapons for burst attacks

Strategy:
Ivy behaves like a faster, deadlier Glurch.

  • Stay mobile, poison pools linger on impact
  • Use ranged attacks when she jumps
  • Focus on surviving first; poison buildup kills fast

Rewards:

  • Ivy’s Poison Ring
  • Poison Slime (crafting material for special potions)

6. Malugaz the Corrupted 🔥

Biome: Forgotten Ruins
Type: Fire and Magic Boss

How to Find:
Search the Forgotten Ruins for a large stone chamber with banners, it’s his lair.

Preparation Tips:

  • Equip Fire Resistance Potions
  • Bring Ranged Weapons and Cooked Food for buffs
  • Place torches strategically, his fireballs destroy light sources

Strategy:
Malugaz teleports, casts fireballs, and spawns flaming orbs.

  • Keep moving to avoid AoE attacks
  • Focus fire between teleports
  • Use the arena’s corners to dodge safely

Rewards:

  • Burnzome Helmet and Armor (fire resistance)
  • Malugaz Skull (decoration and bragging rights)

7. Ghorm + Glurch Hybrid (Hard Mode) 💢

Biome: Late-game summon event
Type: Combined variant boss

If you enable Hard Mode or certain mods, you can trigger hybrid encounters that merge mechanics. Expect heavy damage, wider AoE, and faster summons.

Pro Tip: On modded or ChipHead servers, test hybrid fights on backup worlds before hosting public events, some variants can overwhelm smaller teams.
